I&M customers targeted in phone scam

A phone scam is targeting Indiana Michigan Power customers. The utility company said in a press release Monday it received multiple reports of customers receiving calls from people falsely identifying themselves as employees of I&M.

The calls claim customers are late paying their bills and power could be shut off later that day. Customers were then told to call a different number for payment.

According to the press release, I&M never calls customers demanding immediate payment nor does it disconnect service without prior written warning.

If any I&M customers receive such a call they are asked to call I&M’s Customer Operations Center at 800-311-4634.
