House Page Program invites students to Statehouse

The Indiana House Page Program is accepting applications for students interested in experiencing the 2018 legislative session. Selected students will join Rep. Kevin Mahan during the session, tour the governor’s office, Indiana Supreme Court and House and Senate chambers.

Those interested must be between 13 and 18 years of age. Applicants can apply at www.indianahouserepublicans.com/pageprogram.

AARP Tax Aide program seeks volunteers

The AARP Tax Aide program is seeking volunteers for the 2018 tax filing season to help area taxpayers in need of assistance preparing and filing their Federal and State tax returns as well as volunteers to act as Intake Greeters.

Basic computer skills are a necessary qualification for tax preparers. Training in tax law will be provided the week of Jan. 15 to 19, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. AARP membership is not a requirement.

Tri Kappa offering scholarships

The State Organization of Tri Kappa will award a variety of scholarships to college students throughout Indiana in the spring. Each State scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000.

Scholarship Chair Trisha Krcmarik, of Gamma Rho Chapter is currently seeking applicants for the following:

Twelve $1,000 Academic scholarships will be awarded and additional at-large scholarships could be awarded dependent upon the funds available. To apply students must be currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate program, having completed at least one academic year.

Two $1,000 Key scholarships are available to students throughout the state. These are directed to those students who have no previous degree beyond high school and have had a lapse in their education for at least five years. Any student enrolled in an accredited school offering an associate or baccalaureate degree, who has completed at least one semester, may apply.

Two $1,000 Fine Arts scholarships will be awarded statewide to students majoring in art, dance, drama, or music. To apply, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate degree program, having completed at least one academic year.

The $1,000 Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Award stipulates that the applicant must be enrolled in a fully accredited course leading to a degree to teach music in a private, public, or parochial school, having completed at least one academic year.

Grief Share classes begin Jan. 15

New Hope Baptist Church will be starting Grief Share classes for all those dealing with a recent loss. Classes will begin Jan. 15 at New Hope Baptist Church from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  There will be a $25 fee to cover the cost of the book.  For more information contact Rachel Rhoadarmer 970-324-0305.
